One of the more radical design decisions in the forthcoming Windows Runtime is that no API may, even potentially, take more than 50 milliseconds to complete. Operations that could take longer than that will instead have a 'kick off this operation' API that returns immediately without waiting for the result of the operation. RedMonk has released a ranking of programming languages based on their popularity on StackOverflow and GitHub. The buzz seems to be focused on Java, which is surprising since C# left it in the dust on features. C# is still beating it in most places, but Java and a few other top tier languages have it edged out on GitHub projects. I assume this is because many C# projects are hosted on CodePlex. Mango12 created an interesting competition to kick off the New Year, and I decided to try it out. It’s a simple task along the lines of a code kata, and I recommend you try it yourself before looking over my solution. Task: Compress a list of words into the shortest string that contains all words.
