One of the many challenging things in building n-tier applications is designing a validation system that allows running rules on both the client and the server and sending messages and displaying them back on the client. I’ve built a couple application frameworks in my time and so I know how tricky this can be. I’ve been spending time digging into the validation framework for LightSwitch and I have to say I’m impressed. LightSwitch makes it easy to write business rules in one place and run them in the ap... So I think I’ve mentioned before I have been working on a Windows Phone 7 application. It’s been a real learning experience as oftentimes as a writer, I get to know my feature areas very well, but don’t create full-blown applications using several features. How to load a static xml file into my application is one of the things I’ve recently learned. (more)

Your phone can turn into a robot LayoutTransformer works great on the Windows Phone platform - David Anson

The WPF platform offers RenderTransform and LayoutTransform. Silverlight - being considerably smaller and a bit simpler - has only RenderTransform. Which is usually enough - except when it's not! :)So I wrote LayoutTransformControl a while back in order to bring LayoutTransform to the Silverlight platform. It was so useful/popular that we included it in the Silverlight Toolkit with the name LayoutTransformer [insert robot sounds here].That post includes links to a bunch of my posts about... (more)

Behind the scenes at mvcConf How we ran a free virtual conference - Jon Galloway

mvcConf was a free, virtual conference focused on ASP.NET MVC which ran on 7/22. We ran 25 sessions in three virtual rooms and had roughly 500 people logged on throughout the day. All sessions were run via LiveMeeting and were recorded. We were really happy with the community reception, e.g. this public “well done” for the ASP.NET MVC Conference post. This post talks about how we ran it, what worked well, and where we can improv... (more)

A few times, we have been asked how to use a URL to directly navigate to a given sub-page of a SketchFlow prototype. My colleague Chuck Hays from the SketchFlow team posted an answer to this question here, on the Expression forums. Many thanks to Chuck, who kindly answers an amazing number of customer questions. The solutions is pretty simple:When your prototype starts up, you can check for the URL used to navigate to the prototype. You can then parse this... (more)
