.NET - Using jQuery To Hijack ASP.NET MVC Form Posts

I had to post data from a form asynchronously so as not to move the user from the current page. Sounds hard but in reality it’s quite simple. When you use jQuery it’s possible to intercept and change behaviours through hijacking. Some refer as hijaxing since the goal is to add Ajax functionality. (more)

You’re interested in web application scalability and availability, right? Of course you are! Well, you’re in luck because Udi Dahan – enterprise development expert, SOA specialist and author of NServiceBus – joins the guys on this week’s episode of Herding Code. Jon kicks off the show by asking Udi if one can run a high-availability and high-scalability site (like stackoverflow.com) on two servers with ASP.NET? Udi asks “how high is high” and talks about the importance of defining the scope of the ... (more)

Over the last six months the ASP.NET team has been steadily releasing preview, then beta, and now release candidate builds of ASP.NET MVC 2. Given that the final release is not too far away, I thought it was a good time to start a new multi-part ASP.NET MVC 2 blog series that discusses the new features and how best to take advantage of them. ASP.NET MVC 2 We shipped ASP.NET MVC 1.0 last March. Since then, almost 1 million developers have downloaded and used the final release, and its popularity has s... (more)

I already discussed how to write programs that run on GPU using Microsoft Research Accelerator project. In this article, we'll write an image rotation using data-parallel F# functions and then use a library that translates it to Accelerator automatically. This way we can get a significant performance improvement almost for free. (more)

This is an example of utilizing the Repository pattern implemented with NHibernate as data access framework but keeping in mind to provide a layer of abstraction to easy switch to another data access provider (Entity Framework for example). Patterns like Approval, Finder, Persistor, etc. Connecting to SQLite in memory; SQLite in file; Postgres with FluentNHibernate. Following the podcasts of the MVC Storefront Project at the time learning the ASP.NET MVC framework was for me really good introduction ... (more)

How can I find ChildControls on ASP.NET Pages within a MasterPage?

I know this isn't really exciting or cutting edge, but hopefully you'll find it useful. Occasionally I need to use the FindControl method on an ASP.NET WebForms page to locate a particular control. Recently I needed to do the same on a web site was using MasterPages which causes the Page.FindControl to not find thte controls on the page as you would expect. This is because the Page object is now contained in a MasterPage, so you have to drill down the control heirarchy. In this case I was able to solve m... (more)

So I’m hoping that this post helps out some of my fellow ASP.NET Developers.  Something we all have to do as ASP.NET Web Developers is to get the data in a business object onto the page and the off again. “What's so hard about that?” you might ask. Well, nothing. BUT, the methods that I’m presenting here (IMHO) can make this processes a little easier and cleaner. Now, the idea here isn’t original. It’s been done before, but here’s my take on how to do this. For this example, here’s the markup that I’m u... (more)

12/29/2009ASP.NET MVC Scorecard Web Application - Part 1 There have been a lot of requests for MVC based scorecards, so I am going to kick off a new series of wiring up an MVC scorecard site.  This first part will simply cover setting up the basic site and skeleton framework using the default ASP.NET MVC Project. Start off by starting a new ASP.NET MVC Project.  Since I will be creating tests for this walk through, be sure to add a unit test project also.  I am just using the default MS-test libraries ... When comes the time to use Silverlight out of browser functionality, we may have to face the fact that Silverlight might be used without an internet connection. In this particular case, the application must implement a local cache. I have found some very interesting database solution available for Silverlight.siaqodb (in beta when this post was published) This database is using LINQ natively to retrieve the data which is stored in the isolated storage on the client machine. var p = new Product { Name...
