Do you know the quality of the project you're currently working on? Sure you can have guidelines and rules... but projects where a few people have worked on for a few weeks/months/years tend to live their own life here and there. Maybe the team had to catch a deadline for the latest sprint, or the lead developer was on holiday and the problem had to be solved using a quick and dirty solution, ... Every project will have its own little exceptions to the rules and guidelines. But it should be possible a... (more)

Lists and their performance has been hot discussion topic for years. I have seen many examples and read a lot of stories about List class and I made conclusion that there is too much pointless opinions about it. In this posting I will show you how List (more)

Dot + Net Digging .Net: How To : Communicate between two user-controls using Event Aggregator

I found many posts in the asp.net, silverlight.net fourms regarding communication between user-controls, so i thought to blog a bit about communication between user-controls using Event Aggregator in silverlight which i found is the best way to communicate. The main advantage for using an event aggregator to communicate between user-controls is, it removes the tight coupling between a publisher and a subscriber, by which a publisher/subscriber can evolve independently. Pre-requisites for understandin... (more)

I'm definitely a software person. I took EE in school and made an LED class, then a small computer like everyone else, and I know my volts and my amps for the most part, but that's about it. The limits of my skills are somewhere around adding an LED and some resistors to leech power off a USB adapter (which I recently did while working on the Hanselcade retro arcade build).I look at hardware guys like Clint Rutkas in awe. I mean, seriously, who builds a T-shirt cannon from scratch for fun? AmazingC... (more)

I’ve found that creating water effects that respond interactively and smoothly is not really something easy to do in WPF or Silverlight.  However because a project required it I trudged forward managed to get it working pretty nicely – buttery smooth and low CPU utilization. The results can be seen in the video, but the reasons it wasn’t easy may be interesting to WPF/Silverlight developers so I’ll mention why... (more)

I just learning Silverlight, or at least trying to, but I am having the hardest time trying to watch your videos. We 1.5 Mbits here at the office, but 40 people use it... so I am lucky to get 64Kbits for myself. Anyway, I do not know if it is a SilverLight streaming issue or not, but I cannot watch your videos because they will buffer for about 2 to 3 minutes, then play about 5 to 10 seconds of video, then buffer again, then rinse and repeat. I do not have this problem when watch Flash videos o... (more)

There are some great people with Silverlight and many of them are sharing a ton with the community through blogs, twitter, forums, videos, articles, books, training, and speaking engagements. Different folk tend like different mediums, so it is great that we have so many options to share information on Silverlight. Years ago I used to read books to find my information. Then as the web grew, I started reading a ton of articles. That grew into blog reading for me, and in the past few years watching... (more)

SuperQ – A Portable Persistent .NET Queue | Benjii Me

SuperQ is much like the Queue Storage for Windows Azure, except it automatically creates a local db instead of using the cloud. It is also self-polling, so all you need is a callback method and you’re ready to go. This allows you to create quick and easy task schedulers and background worker processes. (more)

Multithreading: Which lock object should i use?

published 989 days, 5 hours, 28 minutes ago posted by http://baldi.myopenid.com/http://baldi.myopenid.com/ 989 days, 14 hours, 4 minutes ago

The lock keyword locks a specified code block so two threads can't process the same code block at the same time. When one threads exits the locked block, another thread can enter the locked code block. The Monitor class offers the same functionality, but you specifiy the start and end of the locked code block with Monitor.Enter and Monitor.Exit. For both techniques you need a variable to lock on, but what sort of variable should you use? (more)

SSIS scenarios... One of the most advance feature of SSIS is Script design capability provided be it Script Task in Control Flow or Script Component in Data Flow Task. I have seen people use the Script task pretty often but avoid Script Component because of various reasons. Earlier I had shown how to set up user variable in Script component. (more)

Use of Expression Trees in .NET for Lambda Decomposition

Expressions are the building block of any Lambda Expression. In C# 3.0, .NET framework has introduced a new technique to make use of Anonymous methods a better way. The "Little Gem" LINQ, uses Lambda expression extensively to invoke filter statements to IEnumerable objects and hence making the life for a programmer very easy. Simple lambda expressions like x => x<...>, Action<...> etc. in Base Class Library which lets you to pass any type of argument to a method body. The one with Func are for met... (more)
