MVVM (Part 2)- Ccmmanding - CodeProject

In my previous article I covered the MVVM infrastructure that was lacking commanding. This one completes the previous article by adding commands to the Home Grown MVVM.How Commanding Works Here I am pretty sure that Silverlight 5 will have much better support for commands but right now I had to come up with some scheme to support commanding. The way I ‘wired’ commands is by ‘kidnapping’ the events and rewire them so the command action will get invoked. ... (more)

There is a lot to consider when moving into design for Windows Phone 7. If you have ever worked on mobile platforms you probably have some idea what you are in for, but for those who have stuck to the desktop, here is a few tips to get you started on WP7 design. First thing is to learn about the phone, the UI and how other applications work. Metro is the phones interface style. It's a pretty big step away from what you may have worked on before so spend the time to read the style guide and the concepts ... (more)

Using The Silverlight DataGrid with View Model / MVVM - CodeProject

Friday, July 30, 2010 12:01:01 PM GMT Thursday, July 29, 2010 6:21:21 PM GMT
The Silverlight DataGrid is a powerful control that allows inline editing, paging, sorting, and drag and drop re-ordering of columns. It can be challenging to understand when using normal code behind techniques, but sometimes downright baffling when using View Model / MVVM style programming. In the following examples, we will not directly reference the DataGrid in the View Model. The code we will create can be consumed by... (more)

Developers using a visual Designer use sample data to light up their UI at design-time; to cause the Designer to render like it will at run-time. This time saving feature is especially important when designing DataTemplates or adjusting the layout of a DataGrid since the developer will not have to actually run the application to see what it will render like with... A while back I had sent out an update on Twitter that I was sitting in a meeting reviewing some “top issues” for Silverlight as reported through various channels (official support, forums, social media outlets, blogs, incoming emails, etc.). It really seemed to be a holistic view of incoming feedback from all over the place. People asked if I’d share the issues we discussed and I thought it would be interesting to see what people... One of my favorite features of Silverlight is the ability to completely redefine the visual elements of a control. By editing templates and visual states you can reuse the functionality of controls without having to write any custom classes or logic. Unit Testing Dynamic XAP Files

By now, you probably are aware that you can dynamically load XAP files using the Managed Extensibility Framework (MEF) within your Silverlight applications. Have you been scratching your head, however, and wondering how on earth you would actually test something like that? It is possible, and here's a quick post to show one way you can. First, we need a decent deployment service. You're not really going to hard-code the download and management, are you? I didn't think so. If you need an example, loo... (more)
