Getting Testing Done in the Sprint – No Double, Triple Testing

One way of getting testing done in a sprint is making it [testing] as efficient as possible, meanwhile this also saves money. One way of getting more efficient is not doing things double or triple. An interesting thing with testing, we do test double or triple. We test it during unit, during unit integration, during functional and during acceptance testing, this can be done better, we could save a lot of time. I’ve seen teams which also automated all these types of tests, testing the same thing... not re... (more)

The ASP.NET configuration system is build around the idea of inheritance: Each Web.config file applies configuration settings to the directory that it is in and to all of the child directories below it. Settings in child directories can optionally override or modify settings that are specified in parent directories. Configuration settings in a Web.config file can optionally be applied to individual files or subdirectori... (more)

WPF transitions are a very nice way to turn standard, boring application interactions into great user experiences, and show the author pays attention to details. There are basically two ways of implementing transitions in WPF. You can do a manual transition using RenderTransform to modify the visuals’ position, scaling and rotation. Or you can leverage pixel shaders. In this post I will discuss how to build a TransitionControl, which beautifully animates transitions from one visual state into the other. ... (more)

Coded UI tests : AutomationId or how to find the chose one (control) !

In my previous post on Coded UI tests, we have seen how to make a control discoverable by a Microsoft UI Automation client including the Coded UI tests builder. This is a first step and the controls now need to be uniquely identified. This is done via the AutomationId property. In this post we’ll digg a little more in coded UI tests and discover the AutomationId property. (more)

C#/.NET Little Wonders: The Generic Action Delegates

Back in one of my three original “Little Wonders” Trilogy of posts, I had listed generic delegates as one of the Little Wonders of .NET. Later, someone posted a comment saying said that they would love more detail on the generic delegates and their uses, since my original entry just scratched the surface on them. So over the next few weeks, I’ll be looking at some of the handy generic delegates built into .NET. For this week, I’ll give a quick overview of delegates and their usefulness. Then I’ll lau... As a technologist, I love my laptop very much and I do not lend it to anyone as I am usually worried that my settings would be messed up when I get it back from its borrower. Honestly, I love how I have set up my laptop and I enjoy the settings and programs I have placed on my computer. If someone changes things there – it will surely be annoying for me. Recently at one of the conferences I was attending in, a small accident happened – one of the speaker’s hard drives failed. The owner immediately panic... (more)

I earlier wrote an article about SQL SERVER – Fundamentals of Columnstore Index and it got very well accepted in community. However, one of the suggestion I keep on receiving for that article is that many of the reader wanted to see columnstore index in the action but they were not able to do that. Some of the readers did not install SQL Server 2012 or some did not have good machine to recreate the big table involved in the demo. For the same reason, I have created small video for that. WP7 : how to get the version number of my application ?

It’s always a good thing to provide information to the users of your application. One thing which may seem trivial is the version number. In fact it’s a really important information because with it the customers can send you a feedback with enough information to know in which version you have to fix the bug. In ConsoTracker, the app I build on Windows Phone, I forgot to provide it and users ask met to provide it ! In this post you’ll discover that the classic .Net way does not work and how to retrieve ... (more)
