Hold it, don't shoot me. I know this would be an awful practice, but it is an interesting C# compiler quirk nonetheless.. (more)

Generating RSS and ATOM Feeds In WebMatrix   I've previously looked at how to generate RSS feeds for both Web Forms and MVC using a variety of techniques, so it is only right that I look at a couple of ways to do this in Web Pages - the Razor based web development model supported by WebMatrix.   Just to recap, RSS, or Really Simple Syndication is an XML-based way to share or distribute content. ATOM was designed to overcome some of the perceived issues that afflicted RSS, and enjoys som... (more)

As the word “code-first” implies, the EF 4.1 offers a code centric data programming paradigm. From a coder’s point of view, it requires little effort to map a very clean object model to a database. This style of programming is idea for explorative, bottom-up kind fsharp programmers. Since EF 4 CTP4 release, there have already been many buzzes. Is these application demands sound familiar: Using background I/O operations Web services polling Processing large amount of data Running an algorithm in the background More If you are working in Windows environment you will probably use a background worker (or another thread) for achieving these demands in order to make your application more responsive. In web environment this was impossible since JavaScript is a single threaded environment. (more)

In 2009, I wrote how to do “postbacks” with the ASP.NET MVC DropDownList control. I wrote the post in response to questions in the forums, and lately that particular article has had a lot of traffic. Now, I don’t explain how to do true postbacks, only how to achieve the same effect. What you really do is use jQuery to retrieve the information. It’s a much more elegant solution. This follow-up is necessary because I wrote that article for ASP.NET MVC 1. The code doesn’t work for the later versions, as is... (more)

In this blog post I look at how to implement the fly-out fly-in effect seen in native Windows Phone 7 applications. This effect is seen in the native mail application; when you click on a message, the title flies out of the list then flies back in as the title of the message page. This is the third in my “Metro In Motion” series where I am looking at how to re-create some of the stylish transitions and animations found in native Windows Phone 7 applications.
