NESL: Native Extension for Silverlight or No (Except Seven) Limits for Silverlight? Experimenting the Sensor API with a Wiimote

The first time I heard about the Native Extension for Silverlight, I wondered: well, in what context can I use this? In what kind of scenario? And overall, is it something really usable? In this article I will try to test one of the features included in NESL, i.e. the capability of interacting with motion sensors. At the end I used the popular wiimote controller since it has a built-in accelerometer. (more)

Hey, have you implemented the NuGet Action Plan? Get on it, it'll take only 5 minutes: NuGet Action Plan - Upgrade to 1.2, Setup Automatic Updates, Get NuGet Package Explorer. NuGet 1.2 is out, so make sure you're set to automatically update! The Backstory: I was thinking since the NuGet .NET package management site is starting to fill up that I should start looking for gems (no pun intended) in there. You know, really useful stuff that folks might otherwise not find. I'll look for mostly open source pr... (more)

ReSharper 6 Enhances Razor Support - JetBrains .NET Tools Blog

Razor is the new View Engine introduced by Microsoft in ASP.NET MVC 3. If you have worked with ASPX View Engine, the default one up to version 2 of MVC, you’ll certainly appreciate the simplicity and ease of use of Razor. It makes the flow of HTML vs Code much easier to the eyes and to work with. In ReSharper 6, we are enhancing Razor support in Visual Studio by adding a series of features that will make it even better to work with. Importing Namespaces ReSharper 6 now automatically imports the specific... (more)

MVC Extension Method for Hosting Static Content on a CDN - Nathan Totten

Friday, April 22, 2011 1:10:00 PM GMT Wednesday, April 20, 2011 4:04:32 PM GMT
I created a simple extension method that allows you to easily host your static content off the Microsoft ASP.NET Ajax CDN and Windows Azure CDN. This simple extension method will improve the performance of your website as well as saving server capacity (i.e. money). As you may have heard Windows Azure now supports using your Web Roles as a CDN backing. This allows you to use the Windows Azure CDN without the need to m... (more)

Create user friendly date fields with ASP.NET MVC EditorTemplates & jQueryUI - Rachel Appel

Today's web sites need to be user friendly, interactive, and responsive. The date field is of particular interest because at this point in time, users pretty much expect too see nicely formatted dates on the site in general, and datepicker/calendar widgets to interact with when editing date fields. The best way to do this, of course, is with client s... (more)

This blog post describes a Windows Phone 7 NavigationList control, a list control designed for navigation pages. The NavigationList renders twice as fast as a ListBox and has a slightly simpler API. A few months ago I blogged about the relative performance of the Windows Phone 7 emulator versus the same code being run on the real hardware. There were a couple of take-home messages from this blog post, firstly the performance on real hardware is typically much slower than the emulator, and secondly an It... (more)

There have been several techniques that have been posted on getting the MVC3 reference assemblies deployed as part of your Windows Azure Solution. http://blog.smarx.com/posts/asp-net-mvc-in-windows-azure This is something I learned today is in Visual Studio 2010 SP1. If you open up the context menu for the project, you’ll see “Add Deployable Dependencies”. When you select the parts you need it adds the bindeployableAssemblies to the project and a copy. With Vs2010 SP1, the build targets have been up... (more)

At MIX11, I am releasing a new preview of MVVM Light version 4. This new preview contains one small change and one large change. ObservableObject replaces NotifyPropertyChanged In the previous preview, I introduced a new class named NotifyPropertyChanged. However, I got a few suggestions to rename this class to ObservableObject, which is indeed a better name. In BL16, NotifyPropertyChanged was deleted and replaced by ObservableObject. Nothing else changes, just the name. (more)

The third series of Entity Framework tutorials, Getting Started with the Entity Framework Using ASP.NET MVC, has been published on the ASP.NET site. The tutorials create a sample application similar to the one that the two Web Forms series (Getting Started with the Entity Framework and Continuing with the Entity Framework) create. Creating a Markup Extension for MEF with Silverlight 5 - Jeremy Likness

One exciting new feature of Silverlight 5 is the ability to create custom markup extensions. Markup extensions are a part of XAML. Whenever you see a notation that starts and ends with a brace, you are viewing a markup extension. Markup extensions exist to pass information to properties in the XAML that the XAML parser can use when generating the object graph. A commonly used example of markup extensions is the data-binding syntax. In the following XAML snippet, the data-binding uses a markup extensi... (more)

Four months ago, in December 2010, we held the Silverlight Firestarter in Redmond - an entire event dedicated just to Silverlight, with great speakers from inside Microsoft and from the Silverlight community. In that event's keynote, Scott Guthrie showed off some of the plans we have for Silverlight 5 (as well as the secret location of his tattoo). In today's keynote at MIX11, Scott Guthrie expanded on that. I'm proud to announce that today we have shipped Silverlight 5 Beta... (more)

At the MIX11 conference Scott Guthrie announced the availability of Silverlight 5 Beta. I suppose this doesn’t come at a surprise to most as this is now a regular annual occurrence. In fact it is almost exactly a year ago when Silverlight 4 was released. The team has been working very hard to deliver on the features we discussed at the Silverlight Firestarter event last December 2010. That was a flurry of revealing that happened in December showing the world what the Silverlight team has been working... (more)

Belgian eID and .NET - Part 2: Modify the middleware and remove the confirmation dialog

posted by sandrinosandrino 774 days, 20 hours, 5 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 06, 2011 5:29:48 PM GMT
In my previous post I talked about how you could build the eID middleware and create a sample application that uses the eID. When you start an application that uses the middleware you'll see the following confirmation dialog that asks the user for permission to access the card. An end user wouldn't want this dialog to pop up all the time while working with eID cards. But since we have the sources we can modify the middleware and suppress the confirmation dialog. Let's get started! (more)
