T4 templates or Text Template Transformation Toolkit is a mean of creating a code generation artifacts which can save a lot of time. This technology is a part of Visual Studio since 2005 but was one of those technologies that were kept in secret by Microsoft. N-Tier Methods in Entity Framework 4 – Use with Care : Don't Be Iffy

One of the things I struggled with in n-Tier apps in EFv1 was the options for reconstructing entity state on the server side in order to call SaveChanges when modified data was passed in from the client. The options were to hit the database to get a set of current server values and then apply updates to those or to just attach the incoming data and iterate through each property marking it as modified so that SaveChanges would be able to construct an Update. Storing Files and Images in Access with ASP.NET

Storing Files and Images in Access with ASP.NET   Should you store files and images in the database or the filesystem in an ASP.NET application?  With SQL Server this is a dilemma, with both approaches having their pros and cons.  When it comes to Access, the decision is much easier to make.  Because an Access database is restricted to 2Gb, it makes more sense to store files in the file system.  However, sometimes, you may not have the choice. If you have to use the database, here's how. ... (more)

Less CSS with .LESS and T4! - Blog - Chad#

After hearing about .LESS for .NET I was ecstatic. I’ve been looking for something like this for quite some time. Recently Phil Haack blogged about a T4 template he made using Damien Guard’s helper class to generate CSS files for each LESS file. This way it would generate static CSS files you could reference. As great as this was I personally was looking to just have the CSS files appear in the location of the LESS files making it easier to reference/view the CSS files. The advantage to this is if y... Will Silverlight 4 ICommand support simplify using commands in Prism?

As I thought this is a question that could interest many people, instead of answering this question directly in the Prism codeplex forum I decided to create a short blog post and answer it here. The answer is “kind of”. Silverlight 4 Beta, so far, only supports binding commands to controls that inherit from ButtonBase (Button and HyperlinkButton), as you can read in Tim’s and Mike’s posts. Therefore, if you are using Prism, these are the things that you will not need any more, and those that you will:No l...
