What’s an Action Filter? If you’re just getting started with ASP.NET MVC, you may have heard of something called action filters, but haven’t had the chance to use them yet. Action filters provide a convenient mechanism for attaching code to your controllers and/or action methods that implements what are referred to as cross-cutting concerns, that is, functionality that isn’t specific to one particular action method, but rather is something you’d want to re-use across multiple actions. An action filter ... (more)

One thing that I’ve noticed in several apps in the Windows Phone 7 marketplace is the ad chopping off on the right hand side. I decided that my next Windows Phone 7 app will be ad supported so why not sign up for the Advertising SDK and investigate this issue. *Note: If you want to see this in an actual app then download the free app called “Road Rage”. So here is an example of what I am talking about: You will notice that the right hand side of the AD is chopped off using the default ad banner. Yo... (more)

XNA for Silverlight developers: Part 7 - Collision detection

Detection of and reaction to collisions is a very fundamental element in games. As soon as it has moving components of some sort, it is likely that collisions are of concern. For example, the player character may collide with the scenery of the game. The player may also collide with other characters (enemies, monsters etc.), and of course many games work with projectiles that can hit various other parts on the game screen. But what exactly are collisions in a game, and what are good ways to detect and ha... (more)

Building applications with ASP.NET MVC 3 and that too with RAZOR is easy. I believe most of the programmers out there found MVC 3 with RAZOR view engine found it easy. The best things I found in the new RAZOR view engine is the code is pretty much tidy no traditional code behinds and moreover you can work with the server-side code with the start of the @ symbol. What is a Helper Class? I am not going to copy and paste the definition from somewhere but I want to write my own thoughts on the helper class... (more)
