« Web Development Helper[C#] Byte Array to Hex string »[ASP.NET MVC 2] Handling timeouts in asynchronous controllers Posted by dariosantarelli on October 16, 2010 An important feature of the ASP.NET MVC framework is the possibility of creating asynchronous controllers. As in Asynchronous Pages in ASP.NET 2.0, the aim is to avoid a “thread starvation” in your web application, preventing web clients to receive a bad 503 status code (Server too busy). In fact, when the Web Server receives a request, a thr... (more)

In a previous blog post I described the process of creating a lookless gauge control. I introduced the concept of an attached view model which separates view specific concepts from the control. In this post I demonstrate how this allows for great flexibility when re-templating the control. In my previous post I described the development of a radial gauge control where I removed any view-specific logic and properties from the control by introducing an attached view model into the control’s template. My r... (more)

We are continuing ths msbuild series, this post will focus on zipping the outputs of the build. To recap so far we have setup a batch file that can build and version our project. The output of this build is placed inside a folder called "build" at the top of projects directory structure. We will zip up the outputs of the build so they can be easily distributed. To do this, the Zip build task that is part of the “MsBuld.Community.Tasks” library will be used. It’s already been 6 months since ASP.NET MVC 2 was released and version 3 is already taking shape. I, personally, am thrilled about that because this version seems to put ASP.NET MVC, in terms of maturity and functionality, on the first line along with other MVC frameworks out there like RoR. I’ve put together 5 main reasons why I’m excited about this upcoming version. What about you? (more)

In this article, I will explore new WCF and WF Services features in the .NET 4.0 as well as the new application server capabilities provided by the "Dublin" (AppFabric) extensions. I will use many materials from MSDN and PDC conference. WF4 provides declarative authoring of programs that coordinate work Activities, Runtime and Tooling. What is Windows Workflow Foundation? OK, maybe not quite but a big step forward. This week we released a hotfix for both VS and WPF that changes menu placement to eliminate scrolling menus when there actually is enough vertical real estate to avoid them. In the screen shot below (with the patch applied), you can see that menu has been moved up (relative to the right click target – Program.cs) to avoid clipping the menu at the bottom of the screen and having a scrolling menu. Pre-hotfix the menu would have been vertically aligned with Pro... (more)

WebMatrix - Working With The JSON Helpers   Javascript Object Notation (JSON) is a data exchange format which really grew in popularity as AJAX libraries took off. It's lightweight and human readable, and is a great way of transferring data structures between the browser and the server. JSON Helpers were added in WebMatrix Beta 2, and this article looks at them, and how they can be used.   The 3 main helper methods within Web Pages are Json.Encode(), Json.Decode() and Json.Write(). As I have blogged about in the past, the Add Reference dialog in Visual Studio is still pretty terrible in VS2010. Various extensions have made it more bearable by providing search support and other enhancements, but now you can avoid it completely (most of the time) with an excellent extension from Clarius Consulting.
