Sunday, June 27, 2010 11:50:38 AM GMT Thursday, June 24, 2010 5:26:05 AM GMT
In my previous posts on the productivity improvements in Visual Studio 2010, I've focused on features that all VS developers can take advantage of. Sometimes, though, the most useful features are those that are specific to the development language you're using or platform you're developing for. After all, C++ developers often need different features than C# developers, and web developers have different requirements from Windows developers. Today's post focuses on a few enhancements meant just for you ... (more)

What follows is a raw excerpt (before copy editing or final tech reviews) from chapter 20 in my book, Silverlight in Action. This is just a small portion of chapter 20, which covers the media element, streaming, using IIS Smooth streaming, using the Silverlight Media Framework, creating raw video and audio, and using the webcam and microphone APIs. I've blogged bits and pieces on this topic before, but it's such a fun topic, I thought it would be great to provide the whole raw video/audio generator here ... (more)

I just got back from speaking/attending the Norwegian Developers Conference in Oslo, Norway. It was a great time and a well run conference. Like many other conferences I found myself looking for two things I wanted on my mobile: the schedule and a map/guide for the city (I’ve never been to Oslo). You see every time I take a trip, here’s what I do: Search for an app that contains the schedule (or offline version). Ideally allows me to build my schedule and gets updates for changes Find the metro/map... (more)

Recently, we’ve seen a number of people reporting problems with resource generation in Visual Studio 2010, particularly when they target .NET Framework 3.5 on 64-bit machines. In this blog post, I will highlight one of the most common errors; when and where it occurs, and how to work around it. In a later post, we’ll take a look at some other somewhat less common errors, and some background on the differences between the GenerateResource of VS 2008 and that of VS 2010. (more)

Remember good developers don't just write source code, they also READ it. You don't just become a great poet by writing lots of poems. Read and absorb as well. Do check out the Source Code category of my blog here, there's (as of today) 15 pages of posts on Source Code you can check out. Recently my friend Jonathan Carter (OData Dude, my name for him) was working with a partner on some really weird stuff that was happening with a LINQ to SQL query.
