Understanding control customization with templates: part #1

Every Silverlight developer - and more extensively each Windows developer - knows what I mean with the term "Control". The Silverlight plugin, the SDK and the Control's Toolkit have plenty of these controls. Unfortunately, often their appearance is ugly and we may be tempted to change it someway, to give our application a fresh and unique look. (more)

NHibernate - Eager Fetch, Order By and a strange behavior with ICriteria

Shows a strange behavior of ICriteria while using eager fetching on collection of items that have an order by clause applied in the mapping. The mapping order by seems to take over what you specify in the ICriteria. This doesn't happen when using HQL queries. (more)

Couple of days ago I published a sample app in Silverlight that fronted Netflix's oData API - well, now I've ported the same app into WPF again making use of nRoute Framework. It like before demonstrates how you can build an end-to-end application using nRoute's navigation framework, but this time nicely wrapped wrapped in a all new Metro style theme.. (more)

ScottGu forwarded me an email from a developer this weekend who wanted to use ASP.NET Membership in an application deployed on a shared hosting account that allows only one SQL Server database. It’s not all that difficult to add ASP.NET membership (as well as other ASP.NET services) to your existing database. ASP.NET doesn’t really care where the information repository for it’s built in services live as long as they are complete. The database that contains the ASP.NET Application Services repository i... Today we released the beta tools for Windows Phone 7. This is a strong, solid beta, just about feature complete. Heck, I'd almost consider it more of an RC when it comes to quality. If you've been waiting for a solid build before diving into wp7dev, this is the release for you. The Windows Phone Developer Tools Beta includes the following: * Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone Beta * Windows Phone Emulator Beta * Silverlight for Windows Phone Beta * XNA Game Studio 4.0 Beta (more)

About a year ago I was working on building our DotTwain ActiveX control and wrote twoarticles on some useful tips that I discovered.  Since that time, I’ve seen a problem on a few customer computers where, after upgrading once, the control would never run.  Instead, it would just try to reinstall after every page load. After much frustration, it turned out that the problem is related to a little-known Internet Explorer registry entry called VerCache. (more)

Hello again. Today I want to talk about select list with optgroups. So, I need such a list. MVC has no support for it. What to do? After little browsing I decide wrote my own solution. It is based on code from fixed version of MVC DropDownList (you can read about it in Part 1). Main features of the list: * of course - support of groups of options * you can use it with options and with groups of options in any order, iow first item can be option, then - option group, and at the end, again - option.
