Just released System.Web.Mvc.Extensibility Beta I am announcing the beta of System.Web.Mvc.Extensibility. There has been quite a few changes in this release :Added support for PerWebRequest lifetime. Removed the “base” suffix from the abstract class. I am dropping the Autofac. After struggling quite a few days to add PerWebRequest support, I came to the conclusion that adding such support re... When someone asked my former manager David Treadwell what he did on a daily basis his answer was “Go to meetings and delete email”.  Unfortunately that often describes my life as well.  It is always challenging to manage your time.  I want to ensure I’m spending enough on technology, people, customers, etc.  To make this easier, I’m using the Categories feature of Exchange to code each meeting I have (these are my custom categories): At a gla... For last few days I was pushingBrad Wilson to add support for multiple metadata provider in the ASP.NET MVC framework. The reason is very simple, lets say you are developing a relatively large application which has multiple modules, new modules can be plugged-in in future, you do not want all the module developers t... In my previous post, I mentioned that Area is one of the thing that the coming ASP.NET MVC2 needs heavy enhancements (I also created an Issue in CodePlex). The idea was, Area should have dynamic registering/unregistering support instead of registering all the area at the application start. Recently, I was playing with the Area and trying ... (more)

Magellan 1.1 brings support for asynchronous controllers. First we'll look at what it enables, then I will show some ways to configure it. The controller action below makes a WCF call to load a list of customers, which are used as the model for the view. Posted by @dotnetguyuk - Last month I wrote a post explaining how to test your data access layer by using Fluent NHibernate to generate an in-memory SQLite database from an applications domain model and fluent mappings. You can then run unit tests against the SQLite database rather than mocking objects. Over the last couple of weeks I have become less fond of Fluent NHibernate (long story! Curse & Swear!) and wanted to recreate the same functionality using NHibernates standard mappings and features.... (more)

When beginning the project that became BugCamSmash, I knew I was going to try and interact with the UI using the new webcam feature in some way. My first step then was to find a good method for hit detection as well as a good target to hit. Now normally, I’m a peaceful being who tries to “free” insects and creatures that find themselves in my oh-so-humanly claimed living space. But sometimes when finding a creature that looks dangerous or as if it might sting or bite, caveman instincts kick in and I cho... (more)

ASP.NET Membership mechanism allows to use the build-in server tables to store and retrieve user data. By default, this mechanism can only be used with SQL Server database to which Microsoft provides suitable MembershipProvider class. Inheriting from this abstract class, developer can use his own table(-es) from any database and use any database engine other than SQL Server, like Oracle, DB2 etc. (more)
