What’s an independent developer today supposed to do?  There are more app stores than you can shake a stick at, and on this show Erik and Kelly talk about how developers can pick a home.  Kelly defends Microsoft.  Erik doesn’t. Stuff we talk about on the show: - Windows Phones haven’t sold very well.  Maybe 1.7 million have been sold. - Folks like John Gruber are saying that Windows Phones deserve to sell better. - Erik feels bad because he helped talk developers into being early on the Windows Phone pl... If you're a developer, how often do you interrupt by issues that do not relate to your current problem and do not require urgent attention? And how often do you do that? Does it depend on your position? In this post we are interested in only one word - consequences. All the arguments are written in technical terms, based on those participants who had recently been developers. (The developer in the text can be replaced by a tester, designer, DBA, etc.) (more)

TSQL Challenge 32 - Clean up phrases by removing noise words - TSQL Challenges

published 1073 days, 5 hours, 50 minutes ago posted by jacobsebastianjacobsebastian 1073 days, 10 hours, 39 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 16, 2010 10:42:58 AM GMT Wednesday, June 16, 2010 5:53:23 AM GMT
The idea of this challenge is to clean up the phrase from the words identified as noise words, but only when these words appear at the begining or the end of the string, not in the middle of the string. Your job is to read each row from the source table and remove any noise words from it. The noise words that you need to remove are stored in another table. You should remove the noice words only if they appear at the beginning or end of the sentences. (more)

I recently found a good deal on a 7200 RPM 500GB latpop drive and decided to upgrade myself to that. I’ve been operating on a 150GB drive for a long time and hadn’t been cleaning up old projects, encodings, etc. so it was running thin on space. This was a cheap upgrade (< $90) so I opted for it. I finally got a moment last evening to pop it in and start the fresh installs of everything. Doing so reminded me of how long this process takes for us geeky people. Luckily I do a backup first using my H... (more)

25 January 2010Streamlining Customer Service with Windows 7 and Multi-Touch How many times have you called your cell phone carrier, or your cable provider and received an automated message to authenticate yourself (phone number, address, etc..)?  Then, the split second you get someone on the phone, they do what?  They ask for your telephone number, or name and address…pretty much the same exact information you just put in via your keypad!  But it continues, because more often than not, they will need to...
