During my many Visual Studio tours to visit customers with my good friend Clint Edmonson, we discovered that a lot of people apparently didn’t know they had access to code metrics. So, that begs the question, what are code metrics and why should you care? According to Wikipedia: “A software metric is a measure of some property of a piece of software or its specifications. Since quantitative measurements are essential in all sciences, there is a continuous effort by computer science practitioners and th... (more)

If you've got a programming blog, chances are you'll want to post some code snippets. For some time, the behavior of tabs in Visual Studio's document well has been a source of frustration for some users. Whenever behavior is modified, some users are happy with the changes, while others are not. In an attempt to alleviate this problem I have created this extension, which provides configurable behavior for document tabs. Whenever I download Visual Studio 2010 projects from the Internet and open the solution I am always prompted by the following message “Security Warning for [project name]. You forgot that your service reference had your local URI endpoint in there and when you moved it to staging and/or production it failed. You start cursing Microsoft and the Silverlight team and add to the threads in the forums or perhaps initiate a new wishlist item for the team and throw it out on Twitter and encourage votes. It seems this is still a common frustration and people are trying to solve it in different ways. I’m going to throw out what is my preferred mechanism and add some additional ti... (more)
