Silverlight 4 Screencasts - the Managed Extensibility Framework (MEF) - Mike Taulty

published 69 days, 10 hours, 57 minutes ago posted by StevesSteves 71 days, 25 minutes ago
Saturday, January 02, 2010 12:51:52 PM GMT Thursday, December 31, 2009 11:24:48 PM GMT
One of the interesting things about Silverlight 4 is the inclusion of the Managed Extensibility Framework (MEF) and I think it really helps to build the case for Silverlight 4 as a great platform for business applications. Silverlight applications are rich internet applications – the deployment model is strongly angled towards web deployment as the only way to install a Silverlight application is to start on a web page and run the application - the deployment is intended to be simple, quick and secure. ... Part 1 of a series of screencasts looking at the new Managed Extensibility Framework (MEF) in the Silverlight 4 beta. MEF is a framework that simplifies the design of extensible applications and components. It can flexibly and dynamically discover a set of loosely coupled components and analyse their dependencies in order to compose them together at run time. In this screencast, we talk briefly around the idea of components having imports and exports and then we drop into Visual Studio 2010 and do a qu... (more)

I recently did a webcast for DevelopMentor on using the routing framework introduced in ASP.NET MVC within ASP.NET WebForms based applications to build more modern websites without a major rewrite of existing web applications. The talk was called "Building Modern Websites with ASP.NET WebForms". Here's all the related downloads. We had some microphone troubles so I want to apologize in advance for the sub-optimal sound quality. You can also download the slides and peepleocity.c... (more)

PDC09 Downloader Source Code - Frank La Vigne

It may not be pretty source code, but I thought I’d post the source code here in case someone wanted to see how I did it. As noted in the source, the LINQ to XML code can use some tidying up, but I wrote this late at night while building baby furniture. There are two files of interest here: a Session object to store PDC session information and the code behind for my WPF window.Session.cs file 1:publicstring ID { get; set; } 2:publicstring Title { get; set; } 3:public... PDC09 Session Downloader - Frank La Vigne

I’ve created a very basic downloading tool. Absolutely, no frills, in the UI . Seriously. Downloads are all synchronous. Did I mention it was a no frills, quick and dirty app? On the plus side, it renames the files to something more friendly than just the session code. For example: “CL06” becomes “CL06_Networking and Web Services in Silverlight.wmv” Here’s how it works: Pick a directory and the program will download all the PDC sessions listed in this XML file http:... I just returned from Oredev and TechED EMEA, both conferences were very interesting in their own special ways.  TechED was of course bigger with a lot of good sessions on my specific area while Oredev is a bit more small and cozy, and a way to meet people that deal with completely different things than I do, like JRuby, Clojure, UI Design what have you… and I guess to some extent to get a reality check and see what the world looks like outside of my .net bubble:) Windows Crash Dump Analysis with Dan... Hi folks! I’m posting this from the PDC09 keynote where I’m listening to Don Box show off Azure ! For web developers, I prepared 30 “Quick Hit” videos on stuff that’s new in the latest wave for ASP.NET Develoeprs. It’s far from a complete list, and they are not meant to be real tutorials (They are NOT How-Do-I videos). Think of them as “feature previews” with more learning based material coming in the near future... (more)

In the following screencast I will demonstrate how to speed up your website by using a Content Delivery Network (CDN). Specifically, I will be swamping out a local copy of jQuery with one hosted by Google. You can host a variety of files (example: jQuery, jQuery UI, Prototype, script.aculo.us, MooTools, Dojo, SWFObject, YUI, etc...) with a CDN as well, but the following screencast only shows jQuery being hosted. First of all, you might be wondering "What is a CDN and why do I need to use one?". If so, y... (more)
