The hardest problem with INotifyPropertyChanged is often overlooked: dependency management. When one property is changed, all of its dependent properties need to fire as well. This blog presents another solution based on dynamic dependency determination. (more)

In this post, I want to discuss how I am loading the Ruby ViewModels into the View.  When I write my Views, I like to use the tools I have available to me; Visual Studio and/or Expression Blend.  This means that I want a Visual Studio project and I want to be able to use these tools to create new views quickly.  The XAML files that define my views will still be backed by the obligatory auto-generated C# code, but this is where I want my C# code to end (for these experiments)... This past Tuesday I had dinner with several of the Tampa area Silverlight crew at Champps and then headed over to the Microsoft offices and presented at the Tampa Silverlight User Group (Tampa SLUG). It was a nice evening where I got to see many familiar faces and show off several demos on Silverlight. I am always amazed at how many awesome developers there are in the Tampa Bay area … and many of them are very active in the community. Binding to the selected items of a ListBox (or an another items controls)

posted by jmix90jmix90 1076 days, 18 hours, 24 minutes ago
Monday, June 14, 2010 1:51:58 PM GMT
A problem you often meet when using MVVM is to get the selected items of an items control, especially Listbox. You can easily bind the selected item or the current items but when multi selection comes in the way, it becomes harder because the SelectedItems (with an 's' property is not available to binding). In this article we will discover an easy way to bind yourself with an attached property to the SelectedItems property of the ListBox control. (more)

If you are building WPF or Silverlight applications, chances are you are using the MVVM Pattern (see below if you are not familiar with this pattern). So far, so common. Once you look at the details however, there are some interesting aspects to this setup. A recent discussion on my fellow “Advisors” on the Microsoft Prism Advisory Board got me interested in investigating different options to create the “ViewModel” (VM) part of this pattern. After all, there are quite a few different ways to go about thi... (more)

In this post, I am going to explore how I prefer to attach ViewModels to my Views.  I have published the code to my ViewModelSupport project on CodePlex in case you'd like to see how it works along with some examples.  Some History: My approach to View-First ViewModel creation has evolved over time.  I have constructed ViewModels in code-behind.  I have instantiated ViewModels in the resources sectoin of the view. I have used Prism to resolve ViewModels via Dependency Injection. ... (more)

This article will compare four important architecture presentation patterns i.e. MVP(SC),MVP(PV),PM,MVVM and MVC. Many developers are confused around what is the difference between these patterns and when should we use what. This article will first kick start with a background and explain different types of presentation patterns. We will then move ahead discussing about the state , logic and synchronization issues. Finally we will go in detail of each pattern and conclude how they differ from each other. (more)

Adventures in MVVM – My ViewModel Base – Silverlight Support!

In my last post, I outlined the powerful features that are available in the ViewModelSupport project.  It takes advantage of the dynamic features of C# 4.0 (as well as some 3.0 goodies) to help eliminate the plumbing that often comes with writing ViewModels.  It now has full support for Silverlight as well. Something that is undeniably amazing and cool, but everyone else on my block has already got one.Second, and much worse, I’m about to show you how I used a “pattern” that you either have already embraced, or that you’ve been avoiding like the plague because the folks who are running around shouting “MVVM!
