Microsoft has recently launched the Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and I have just installed it on it in my machine and I am quite amazed with the features its providing so I thought its worth to right a blog post about it. The first and foremost thing you will notice about IE9 is a new slick interface. It has very nice user interface with address bar and tab are both on the same line. You can also enable old view like IE via right click->Show tabs on a separate Row. Like following. You can change tab... (more)

IE9 is the most reliable browser available today in terms of hang resistance. In this post on IE reliability, we show how we engineered IE9’s hang resistance so that an unresponsive tab no longer affects the rest of the browser, similar to how IE is resistant to a crashing tab with Tab Isolation. We highlight new user experiences that help you recover from hangs caused by Web pages, long- running scripts or slow add-ons so that you can browse continuously without interruption. We also perform a competiti... (more)

It's Day 1 of the Mix 11 conference here in Las Vegas. I work for the Web Platform and Tools (that's ASP.NET, IIS, IIS Media, etc) group and I did the Web Platform demos for Scott Guthrie's part of the keynote. A lot of people in Dev and QA worked hard all year long to make some fun and cool products and as the designated "talking head," I had just 16 minutes to make all of them (people + products) look good. I hope I did them all justice. We built a backend and a front end for Rob and my sie http://www... (more)

Web professionals have been getting pretty excited lately, and it’s no surprise why. The latest spawn of Microsoft’s browser, Internet Explorer 9, has just been released. Many people have been talking about the changes and whether the latest version is a solid step forward, or if it’s too little, too late. In a previous article, Jacob Gube (this site’s founder) had a more positive view ... (more)

As we have blogged about many times, one of our top goals for IE9 is enabling developers to utilize the same markup and code (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) across all modern browsers. Part of enabling the same markup means changing existing Web platform behavior for standards-compliance and interoperability. We have published and updated the list of changes to the platform in the IE9 Guide for Developers along with platform previews so that developers have an opportunity to try new features and test early a... I can’t tell you how many times in the past I have wanted to rotate or skew an element in a web page. For the past year or so I have seen some really great examples of using the CSS3 Transforms module in other browsers, but not IE9. In reality the examples I was reviewing simply did not support IE9 transforms. Internet Explorer 9 has supported CSS3 2D transforms since the 6th platform preview. Since the CSS3 transforms module has not yet been ratified by the W3C Microsoft... (more)

Last month Microsoft demonstrated IE9 on Windows Phone 7, a big w00t for that. But we won’t have a copy of IE9 on the Windows Phone 7 emulator for a while to come, and no I have no idea when the SDK will be updated. But I have started doing a lot of experimenting with mobile web development in recent months and wanted to get the feel for IE9 in a phone size. Microsoft introduced the F12 tools in IE8 and has expanded them for IE9. I honestly can’t rec... (more)

A cool feature of Internet Explorer 9 is the msPerformance API. This API helps you to accurately measure the performance of a webpage. A lot of developers have built their own performance measurement constructs over the years, based on the Date function, but the results of these constructs can be way off! (more)

With site developers verifying that their sites run well in IE9 and taking advantage of the new HTML5 capabilities and better performance in IE9’s Standards mode, now is a good time to recap how to use Browser Mode and Document Mode to test sites for IE9 and previous IE versions. In summary, developers can use IE’s Developer Tool’s Browser Mode menu to test how their site will run in different versions of IE. The Document Mode menu is what developers use to determine the best rendering mode for their si... (more)
