So much happened this year for the cloud storage world. First was the Windows Azure Platform went from public preview to full production. Second was Google Docs opened up  for any file type upload/download, effectively making it a GDrive in the cloud. How would these affect you? This article will compare the two cloud storage offerings from price, speed, usability, service level agreement and to developer support. 1. Price  Google’s storage cost = 25c / Gigabyte / year = 2c / Gigabyte ... (more)

Looks like some of the big crowdsourcers want to encourage their members to get skilled up on Windows Azure. This contet looks pretty easy and if there are three netbooks, the odds are pretty good too: http://www.codeproject.com/Competitions/396/Windows-Azure-App-Contest-March-2010.aspx (more)

A while ago, I did a blog post on creating an external facing Azure Worker Role endpoint, listening for incoming TCP connections. After doing that post, I had the idea of building a Windows Azure FTP server that served as a bridge to blob storage. Lack of time, other things to do, you name it: I did not work on that idea. Until now, that is. (more)

How To Get Diagnostic Data From Services Running In The Windows Azure Cloud - Paul Mehner

published 1169 days, 19 hours, 51 minutes ago posted by DustinDustin 1170 days, 11 hours, 14 minutes ago
Thursday, March 11, 2010 12:16:07 PM GMT Wednesday, March 10, 2010 8:53:49 PM GMT
Each instance of Windows Azure Service Role runs its own monitor to gather its own instance specific diagnostic data. The problem that immediately presents itself is knowing what exactly is being collected, where the data is being saved, and how to retrieve it for inspection. The purpose of this blog post is to illuminate these areas a little bit better. So lets start at the beginning… When you create a new Windows Azure Web Role, Visual Studio will automatically add a boilerplate WebRole.cs file to you... (more)

Codeguru: Web or Cloud - Which Direction Will Client Apps Take?

published 1182 days, 17 hours, 30 minutes ago posted by webguiwebgui 1183 days, 18 hours, 50 minutes ago
Friday, February 26, 2010 2:37:38 PM GMT Thursday, February 25, 2010 1:17:35 PM GMT
It is a well-known theory that the web and cloud will gradually force out client applications. All that would be needed is a computer with Internet access. In fact, even the full-fledged operating systems in use today would be excessive, as data will be stored on remote servers with necessary software available in the form of various web services. Could this really happen? (more)

7 simple steps to run your first Azure Queue program

published 1196 days, 20 hours, 15 minutes ago posted by questpondquestpond 1198 days, 37 minutes ago

Azure queues help to communicate data between web role and worker role. Web roles are nothing but web application which can be accessed by the end browser. Worker roles are back ground processes which run in the azure system and they do not take direct request from the web. So if we want to pass data to worker roles we need to use Queues. Queues are temporary storage which acts like a bridge between web role and worker role. So you can post data to web role , web role posts data to queues and worker r... (more)
