Viewmodel extractors in ASP.NET MVC

Last week, I wrote something on assembling viewmodels in ASP.NET MVC. In that post, I said it would be nice to have a layer between my controller and my domain services that would assemble viewmodels for me. This would work one-way. In the other direction - from controller to domain services - I would just take a piece of my composite viewmodel and pass that directly to my domain services. Well, that last part didn't really work out eventually. I found it hard to find real-world scenarios where I cou... (more)

No one wants downtime. In this age of Web 2.0 (or even more), the usage of internet based applications has been redefined. People tend to engage themselves in much more volume than ever before, making it even harder for infrastructure guys to keep up the servers in full health. This post tells about 8 pain-points of traditional web server systems. (more)

I was looking through some code and found this class recently.  It almost reminds me of a class I saw called a speed up loop.  This however, is obviously more important to the grand scheme of politics eh! public class BureaucratJob : IJob { readonly ITradeReconciler reconciler; readonly ICalculationQueue queue; ILog log; public BureaucratJob(ITradeReconciler reconciler, ICalculationQueue queue) { this.reconciler = reconciler; this.queue = queue; } public void... C#, Clean up your Linq-queries and lambda expressions « Daniel Wertheim

Last week something caught my eyes. How scattered business logic can become if you let your binary expressions be used “here and there” when matching entities against certain rules. Logic for a single entity, e.g Customer can be used all over your codebase. This article will show you a way to get around this and to get a central repository of rules/predicates that can be applied to entities and makes your daily unit test writing easier. I will use simple operator overloading for accomplishing this. (more)

Recently I've been asked this question "Can architecture emerge from continuous refactoring?" and since this topic is very close to what I do professionally I wanted to share my thoughts about it. What is software architecture?I see software architecture as a parallel to a traditional architecture: it consists of knowledge about everything that is required to build a successful software product as in to successfully construct a building. In a context of a particular project architecture eventually resul... (more)
