Is Fluent.NET the same as Mono.Rocks

I came across a comment on dotnetguru.org about Fluent.NET that needs a response. rien de nouveau... Mono.rocks faisait déjà la même chose... http://www.mono-project.com/Rocks This translates to “nothing new… Mono.rocks was already doing the same thing.” I was aware of Mono.Rocks before I released Fluent.NET, so why did I bother? The difference is the purpose in the libraries. Fluent.NET exists to make the .NET framework more fluent. Extension methods and classes are added only if they ... (more)

A. Boschin found some trouble working with the TreeView control in a Model-View-ViewModel scenario. As usually happens, the standard controls are designed to work in an event-driven behavior and this non always marries with a correct MVVM implementation. After some work, he found a way to change the TreeView and transform it to be lazy loadable. (more)

04 January 2010Windows 7 Optimizations on Solid State Drives Be default, Windows 7 disables Superfetch, ReadyBoost, as well as boot and application launch prefetching on Solid State Drives (SSD) with good random read, random write and flush performance. These technologies were all designed to improve performance on traditional hard disk drives (HDD), where random read performance could easily be a major bottleneck. Because of the design changes, Windows 7 powered PCs with SSDs run fast. To understand h... (more)

Design Patterns are not a Silver Bullet and the State of the Programming Blogosphere

published 1233 days, 55 minutes ago posted by mikeborozdinmikeborozdin 1234 days, 23 hours, 19 minutes ago

Design patterns are not a universal tool that can be applied to any project or be used with any programming language. Quality code can be produced without implementing any pattern or even without using OOP. One shouldn’t think of their colleagues as of bad developers if they don’t know the names of fancy design patterns. Moreover, not any single programming project is a business application. Recently I have read so many blog posts where authors ranted about design patterns, test-driven development and s... (more)

When comes the time to use Silverlight out of browser functionality, we may have to face the fact that Silverlight might be used without an internet connection. In this particular case, the application must implement a local cache. I have found some very interesting database solution available for Silverlight.siaqodb (in beta when this post was published) This database is using LINQ natively to retrieve the data which is stored in the isolated storage on the client machine. var p = new Product { Name... Wednesday, January 06, 2010 10:12:08 AM GMT Monday, January 04, 2010 7:36:19 PM GMT
So I’m hoping that this post helps out some of my fellow ASP.NET Developers.  Something we all have to do as ASP.NET Web Developers is to get the data in a business object onto the page and the off again. “What's so hard about that?” you might ask. Well, nothing. BUT, the methods that I’m presenting here (IMHO) can make this processes a little easier and cleaner. Now, the idea here isn’t original. It’s been done before, but here’s my take on how to do this. For this example, here’s the markup that I’m u... (more)

This is an example of utilizing the Repository pattern implemented with NHibernate as data access framework but keeping in mind to provide a layer of abstraction to easy switch to another data access provider (Entity Framework for example). Patterns like Approval, Finder, Persistor, etc. Connecting to SQLite in memory; SQLite in file; Postgres with FluentNHibernate. Following the podcasts of the MVC Storefront Project at the time learning the ASP.NET MVC framework was for me really good introduction ... (more)

I know this isn't really exciting or cutting edge, but hopefully you'll find it useful. Occasionally I need to use the FindControl method on an ASP.NET WebForms page to locate a particular control. Recently I needed to do the same on a web site was using MasterPages which causes the Page.FindControl to not find thte controls on the page as you would expect. This is because the Page object is now contained in a MasterPage, so you have to drill down the control heirarchy. In this case I was able to solve m... (more)
